Submission Guidelines

  • MIPS students only

  • 2 dimensional only (no sculptures, origami, etc.)

  • All traditional 2D media (paint, pencil, charcoal, etc.) are acceptable.

  • Digital fine art is also acceptable, but must be 100% original (i.e. your art cannot contain non-original photos, drawings, logos, etc.). Drawings done on a digital art tablet or program, mixed media, or enhanced photography are acceptable (as long as it’s your photo!). Photos with simple filters will not be accepted.

  • Artwork must be appropriate for all ages – let’s keep it clean. Please avoid things like:

    • Profanity

    • Violence

    • Explicit material

    • …and anything else that doesn’t promote positive, healthy things!

  • Submission is free

  • Please sign your artwork (your signature can be small). This helps us verify that it is original.

  • Only one submission per student. Art that has been entered in a previous art contest is fine.

  • All submissions must be entered by the deadline (December 4 at midnight). No late submissions will be accepted.

All Art Must Be Original:

You must be the creator of the art and image file you submit to the contest. Your submission needs to be your own original concept – not a copy of anyone else’s copyrighted artwork or design. If a submission uses unoriginal/copyrighted material, it will be disqualified. After submitting to this competition, you will be solely responsible for any plagiarism.

Again, please sign your artwork (a small signature is fine). This helps us verify that it is original.

Copyright:

You will retain the copyright to your original artwork.

Non-exclusive Permissions:

By entering into our art competition, you are granting us a non-exclusive, perpetual license to reproduce images of your artwork on our website, future collections, and for marketing purposes. We will not offer your artwork for sale.

File Sizes and Formats:

Your images are best represented at 1200px on the long edge and at a resolution of 72dpi. Translation: Enter a large, high quality file of your art. Any normal photo or image file is acceptable (.jpg or .png are the most common). If you have questions about file type, email hoppe@miprepschool.org and we’ll help you enter.

How To Enter:

Please submit a clear, unedited photo of your artwork in the submission form.

If you encounter any problems or have a question, please contact us at hoppe@miprepschool.org

Judging Criteria:

  • Is it creative?

  • Does it demonstrate mastery of artistic technique?

  • Does it demonstrate skill in composition?

  • Is it original and interesting?

  • Is there overall quality of the medium being used?

  • Note: The quality of the image you submit will have an influence on the judging, so make sure it’s a clear, high quality image.

  • The decision of the judges will be final.

This is a fairly open-ended competition. We’re looking for excellent artwork – the subject material is up to you. Be creative, and show us your best work!
